Putting your home on the market can be daunting, but with a little guidance from your real estate agent and some focused preparation you’ll have it ready for showings and under contract. You want to make sure you’re attracting as many buyers as possible and while also showcasing the best of your home.  Here are 5 Must-Dos before your house hits the market.

De-Personalize

First things first, you have to think of your home is now a product to sold. Letting go of emotions and focusing on how you can position it for sell. Start packing up personal photographs. Buyers like to be able to envision themselves in the home. Instead of the distracting the buyer’s thoughts “Who lived here before?” You want to inspire buyers to think, “I can see myself/our family living in this home.”

Rearrange and De-clutter

Buyers will be curious about how you have lived in “their” potential home. If the buyer opens closets and cabinets, (which they will!) you want to send them the message that this house was well taken care of. Keeping things clean, de-cluttered and organized will show them that the house was treated with care. Need a few ideas on where to start? Neatly stack dishes, clear out the “junk drawer,” organize clothes, neatly line of shoes, clean out and neatly organize the refrigerator.  These things sound trivial but can give that added polish to the rest of the house.

Clean Homes Sparkle

Here’s a list of the must-dos to add a shine to any home!

  • Wash windows inside and out.

  • Pressure wash sidewalks and exterior.

  • Polish chrome faucets and mirrors.

  • Vacuum and dust fan blades and light fixtures daily.

  • Bleach any grout and tile areas.

  • Be hyper aware and deep clean any areas with smells; pet or mustiness.

Importance of Curb Appeal

If you can’t get them in the door you’ll never be able to sell your home. The curb appeal of your home is your first impression to home buyers. Double-check you are doing the most you can to get showings! All that hard work on cleaning and updating won’t matter if they can’t see past the front lawn. It’s important to have a well-kept front yard, freshly potted flowers at the entrance, trimmed bushes and a freshly-cut lawn. Less is More – Rent a Storage Space

Take a little time to examine every room of the house. Consider which furniture makes each room, almost every home shows better with less furniture. Remove pieces of furniture that block or hamper paths and walkways. Even something as subtle as removing extra leaves from your dining room table, will make the room appear larger. You want to showcase the room’s purpose and functionality. You don’t want the furniture to create or accentuate problem areas.
